The West Midl ands has long established itself as one of the fastest growing digital eco nomies in the UK\, with clusters around Edtech and Software development an d particular capabilities around advanced manufacturing\, Mobile and table t development\, cyber security and payments infrastructure.

\n

To sus tain these fast-paced and dynamic sectors\, the region will need its schoo ls\, academic institutions\, and existing work force to develop relevant d igital skills. This will also ensure the West Midlands continues to be an attractive location for people with the relevant skills to stay in the reg ion to help develop and grow the economy.

However\, the workplace is changing and latest research from Harvard shows that a person starting work today may have as many as 11 separate jobs in their career\; that tra ditional career paths are disappearing\; and that while technology skills are now the most important that social skills and being able to “play nice ” in the workplace are becoming the most valued skills.

his event is about leadership\, organisations\, and data. Fr om our work with hundreds of non-profits we know there are powerful opport unities to be realised from getting to grips with data… and there are real challenges too. Many charity and social enterprise leaders tell us they a re not confident about data and lack capability in this area. This event w ill cover some key questions:

\n
    \n
  • Wh at do we mean by data?
  • \n
  • Why is data a big deal in the non-profit sector these days?
  • \n
  • How well is my organisation is doing with dat a compared to others?
  • \n
  • Where do we start on the journey to improv e?
  • \n
  • What help is available to support us?
  • \n
\n

With a mixture of presentations\, discussion and infor mal networking over lunch we hope to cover these questions and others you may have.

\n

This event marks the launch o f our ‘D ata Evolution Plus’ project\, one of just seven in the world supported by the Digital Impact programme  run by the Centre for Philanthropy and Civil Society at Stanford Universit y\, part funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
